EDITORIAL COMMENT
Why would a small fintech like Womply (dba Oto Analytics Inc) spend close to $1,000,000 to lobby the US House of Representatives, US Senate, and the Small Business Administration (SBA)? According to the House Select Subcommittee report, which is central to this publication, “’We Are Not The Fraud Police’: How Fintechs Facilitated Fraud In The Paycheck Protection Program,” concluded that the fraud permitted by Womply and another fintech, which were involved in nearly one in every three PPP loans in 2021, was “obvious and preventable.”
Perhaps, their lobbying efforts have helped them to not face any scrutiny for their actions? Or, could they be lobbying these entities to acquire one of the three coveted and newly minted SBA licenses? Who could be protecting them?
